Dear Mr. President: Are you preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution?

Dear President Obama,

After a little over three months in office, you have accomplished so much, and have remained true to your stated ideal of being able to disagree without being disagreeable.  I have not approved of all of your decisions, but I appreciate your willingness to consider various opinions, and I am deeply grateful for the tremendous amount of time you have spent informing the public, and the care with which you have presented your views. I have never doubted that you are deeply committed to the good of your fellow citizens. I sense the deep respect you bear toward the American people, and feel as if am once more part of a living representative democracy after the past eight years of arbitrary and secretive rule.

My question for you is this: What are you doing to address the legal and constitutional violations by the previous administration? I realize that you have much to do, but the wrongdoing by the Bush administration was so extensive and was met with almost no opposition from Congress, that in a few years it will be all too easy for another imperial president to cite the history of our era in order to justify another war of opportunity or further erosions of our civil liberties.

The Bush administration violated our fundamental values as a people. They disregarded the constitutionally mandated division of power between the legislative and executive branches of government. They deceived the American people into supporting a catastrophic war and then violated the Geneva Conventions by the manner in which they prosecuted that war. They retaliated against critics like Ambassador Joe Wilson, Governor Don Seligman, and the U.S. Attorneys who refused to abuse their power to punish political opponents. With the complicity of Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Secretary of State Katherine Harris, members of the Bush administration may have systematically disenfranchised thousands of black voters in the 2000 and 2004 elections. Despite compelling evidence linking such an unthinkable betrayal of the American people to Bush operatives (most notably in BBC journalist Greg Palast’s exhaustively researched book, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy), there has yet to be a full Justice Department investigation into these charges of election fraud.

Our leaders serve only by the consent of the governed, but it is not consent if it is granted on the basis of lies. Please make sure that these breaches of our trust do not go uninvestigated and unpunished. Our future depends on it.

With support and respect,

Lisa Moscatiello

House Judiciary Committee Holds Historic Hearings on the Case for Impeachment

Democracynow.org | July 28, 2008

The House Judiciary Committee held historic hearings on Friday about whether the White House overstepped its constitutional authority during the presidency of George W. Bush and whether or not such abuses would justify his impeachment. The hearing was billed as one on “Executive Power and Its Constitutional Limitations.” Although the title expressly did not include the word “impeachment,” several Democratic Congress members and witnesses used the opportunity to begin impeachment proceedings against the President and Vice President. We play highlights. [includes rush transcript]

“Gang of Eight” & Obstruction of Justice should move Conyers, right?

Read the impeachable, criminal, anti-Constitutional charges against Bush then ask yourself…

“What is going on here? Why is everyone (almost everyone) in Congress protecting Bush and Cheney?”

We need your fresh ideas! I’m going to start a list:

  1. Obstruction of Justice Tactic: The “Gang of Eight” was secretly tipped off about warrantless NSA surveillance and torture (Articles #24 and #18 ) years before the New York Times and Washington Post revealed them to the public. Those reports have never been disputed.
    • What to do: Call Conyers & chat with him or his admin: It’s basically this: Under the House Ethics Rules, Nancy Pelosi and other witnesses (who may be accessories) are required to recuse themselves from participation to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. They are interested parties who can not in good faith move to keep impeachment off the table.

BREAKING! Kucinich Introduces 35 Articles of Impeachment Against George W. Bush!

democrats.com | June, 9 2009

“Congressman Dennis Kucinich is on the floor of the House of Representatives right now introducing 35 articles of impeachment against President George W. Bush.

Bob Fertik, President of Democrats.com, said: “We’ve waited seven years to find one Member of Congress brave enough to stand up for our Constitution, for which generations of Americans have fought and died. We are thrilled and honored that Dennis Kucinich has chosen to be that one genuine patriot. We congratulate him on his historic leadership, and pledge to do everything in our power to persuade Congress to adopt all 35 Articles and put George W. Bush on trial before the Senate of the United States, exactly as the Founding Fathers wanted.”

Wexler: IMPEACHMENT UPDATE / SCOTT MCCLELLAN’S REVELATIONS

Last night, significant news broke that directly impacts our push for Impeachment Hearings and a possible Inherent Contempt charge for Bush Administration officials such as Karl Rove:

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan has revealed in his upcoming book that:

• Karl Rove, Scooter Libby, and Vice President Cheney lied about their role in revealing the identity of Valerie Plame Wilson – actions easily amounting to obstruction of Justice.

McClellan also admitted that:

• There was a coordinated effort within the Bush Administration to use propaganda to pump up the case for the Iraq war and hide the projected costs of the war from the public.

Scott McClellan must be called to testify under oath before the House Judiciary Committee to tell Congress and the American people everything he knows about this massive effort by the White House to deceive this nation into war.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers has the power to move impeachment legislation through Congress. Call him now and urge him to get on the right side of history before it’s too late! (202) 225-3951 — For those who want to make additional calls, please call your congressional representatives today – Demand impeachment hearings and accountability – Capitol Hill Switchboard: (202) 224-2131 , (800) 828-0498

Last week, a subpoena was issued for Karl Rove to testify before the Judiciary Committee. It appears he will take every legal action to block this subpoena. The truth is that Congress has the right – and obligation – to hold him accountable now – not months or years from now. It is long past time to pass Inherent Contempt and bring Rove, Libby and others before Congress.

We simply cannot ignore these recent developments, nor should we postpone serious inquiry until after the next election.

Go to the fifth bullet down, “GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY”.

I have heard from people who regularly walk the halls of congress lobbying for impeachment, that our calls of impeachment support do make a big difference.

So, please keep your calls coming in and ask others to call.
