Takoma Park Impeachment Resolution

We have drafted a resolution for the city council to consider. Our sponsor will put it on the agenda and then they will schedule a session to consider passing the resolution. This will not get passed without your support. Here’s what you can do:

  • Contact your Council members and the mayor and tell them your thoughts. (phone calls or in person)
  • Come to the city council resolution vote – July 23rd, 7:30PM, Takoma Community Center 7500 Maple Ave.
  • Help with petitioning.
  • Tell all of your friends and neighbors.
  • Call Speaker Nancy Pelosi: (202) 225-0100
  • Call Van Hollen: (202) 225-5341
  • Display an Impeach Him Them yard sign (send us an email if you’d like one)

Together we can do this!

Last night we had a very productive meeting with Mayor Porter. She was interested in what we had to say, and explained the process a bit more to us. With something like a city impeachment resolution, which is likely to be controversial, the Council wants it to be publicized fully before they begin any sort of action on it. The month of May is out, since the council will be focusing primarily on finishing the City budget, so we are looking at June to come forward with the resolution. In the meantime, we will be collecting petitions and handing out information at the Metro, at the Farmer’s Market and other gathering places. We will be talking with the council members with whom we have not yet met. We would be happy to meet with church groups, interest groups, peace activists, etc. to explain more about what we are doing and why.

In particular, the Mayor said that it is important for us to be able to demonstrate to the council that this is a matter of local relevance. I personally think that having our Constitution trampled on is a local issue, but they are looking for evidence of more direct local impact. I would think that anyone who has a family member on active duty right now could attest to the local impact of this Administration’s perfidy. Do you have reason to believe that you have been subject to electronic surveillance without a warrant? Are you a peace activist who has been harassed? Are you a whistleblower who has been silenced or retaliated against? Do you have loved ones who are being detained indefinitely at Guantanamo? Are you a Muslim or Arab who has been subject to any kind of discrimination or Fourth Amendment violations? Have you been served with an “NSA letter” by the FBI? Please come forward if you have a story to tell! We are seeking “liberty and justice for all”!
