935 Reasons for Impeachment

Publicintegrity.org | Jan/08

President George W. Bush and seven of his administration’s top officials, including Vice President Dick Cheney, National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, made at least 935 false statements in the two years following September 11, 2001, about the national security threat posed by Saddam Hussein’s Iraq.

LAST, BEST CHANCE FOR IMPEACHMENT – Help Wexler make it happen!

wex.png

PLEASE FORWARD THIS LIBERALLY AND PROGRESSIVELY!

Impeachment folks,

http://wexlerwantshearings.com

I don’t think there is any way to over-emphasize how incredible and unique the Wexler/Baldwin/ Gutierrez appeal for impeachment proceedings to begin against Cheney is for us.

This isn’t just another petition. This petition is initiated by a six-term member of the House of Representatives – and not only that – a senior member of the House Judiciary.

Drop your other efforts, let go of your “ain’t gonna happen” lethargy and take this for what it is: The last, best chance for impeachment hearings of Cheney to begin. Every impeachment site and organization needs to alter their website to put this petition on their face page full-time, every blogger needs to discuss this every day and every call to our Representatives needs to be on this topic for it to succeed.

Every group that has been gathering petition signatures needs to re-contact each and every signer and get them to sign on online to support this appeal at:

Listening to Wasserman-Schultz say that there isn’t enough public support for it makes clear that on the other side of the corporate lobbyist wall and inside the D.C. echo chamber, they don’t know what we know, that Americans are eager for and longing for impeachment to happen.

Again… we have been handed an incredible gift that can bring to pass what we have been tirelessly fighting for for years. We can’t let this go…

Are you with me?

House Judiciary Trio Calls for Impeach Cheney Hearings

thenation.com – December 14, 2007

“Democrats Robert Wexler of Florida, Luis Gutierrez of Illinois and Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin on Friday distributed a statement, “A Case for Hearings,” that declares, “The issues at hand are too serious to ignore, including credible allegations of abuse of power that if proven may well constitute high crimes and misdemeanors under our constitution. The charges against Vice President Cheney relate to his deceptive actions leading up to the Iraq war, the revelation of the identity of a covert agent for political retaliation, and the illegal wiretapping of American citizens.””

Majority say Bush and Cheney committed impeachable offenses

In a new American Research Group (ARG) poll, a substantial majority of Americans say both President Bush and Vice President Cheney have abused their powers to levels “which rise to the level of impeachable offenses under the Constitution.” Among such Americans, a majority favors Bush’s impeachment and removal, and a substantial majority favors the same for Cheney.

ARG contacted 1,100 respondents between November 9-12, and asked which of the following four statements they agreed with:

  1. President Bush has not abused his powers as president.
  2. President Bush has abused his powers as president, but the abuses are not serious enough to warrant impeachment under the Constitution.
  3. President Bush has abused his powers as president which rise to the level of impeachable offenses under the Constitution, but he should not be impeached.
  4. President Bush has abused his powers as president which rise to the level of impeachable offenses under the Constitution and he should be impeached and removed from office.

Responses are given below; the margin of error is +/- 3%:

11/12/07 #1 #2 #3 #4
All voters 36% 9% 21% 34%
Democrats (39%) 16% 9% 25% 50%
Republicans (35%) 64% 6% 12% 18%
Independents (26%) 29% 11% 26% 34%

Results were even more pronouncedly pro-impeachment and removal when the same questions were asked about Vice President Cheney:

11/12/07 #1 #2 #3 #4
All voters 30% 18% 9% 43%
Democrats (39%) 6% 25% 6% 63%
Republicans (35%) 61% 12% 6% 21%
Independents (26%) 26% 16% 18% 39%

Two things should interest Congressional leadership about these results. First, the largest group of Democrats are in the “impeach and remove” bracket for both Bush and Cheney, with the result for Cheney approaching near-consensus level of 63%.

Second, the results are only different in degree among Independents. Were Democratic impeachment decisions purely dictated by political tactics, they would seek to win the largest group of “political neighbors” — the 39% of the Independent vote also advocating “impeachment and removal” of Cheney and the 34% advocating that for Bush.

Of course, such decisions ought not be purely dictated by political tactics — impeachment of these two traitors to the Constitution would be the right thing to do regardless of the percentage of Americans agreeing that it is.

But it’s disingenuous in the extreme to plead — as variously Conyers, Van Hollen, and Pelosi have — that impeachment is “off the table” because it might jeopardize 2008 election prospects. If anything, these numbers suggest the opposite.

Impeachment Possible for Cheney and Gonzales

by David Swanson at afterdowningstreet.org

Thanks to your help, already 19 Congress Members are cosponsoring H. Res. 333, articles of impeachment against Cheney. And an additional bill, H. Res. 589 has been introduced proposing the impeachment of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. That bill already has 28 cosponsors, and Congressman Steve Cohen, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, is working with Bruce Fein, Deputy Attorney General under Ronald Reagan, to draft articles of impeachment against Gonzales.

Congress Members will be far more likely to take up the impeachment of Cheney or Gonzales when they return to Washington on September 4th if they have heard from you while they’re home for the month of August. Please phone, Email, and fax your Congress Member’s local district office right away. Ask for a meeting. Stop by uninvited. Encourage them to sign onto both H Res 333 and H Res 589 and/or to introduce their own bill for impeachment. You are more likely to persuade them with a face-to-face conversation this month than when they are back in D.C. in September.
