Very interesting webcast of a recent panel discussion at the Library of Congress about the expansion of executive privilege under recent Presidents. Charlie Savage, 2007 Pulitzer recipient, was the guest of honor. There is much good information here, but watch how Savage and Former Rep. Mickey Edwards quickly act to suppress the question about why the media suppresses the question of impeachment (toward the end of the clip.)

This past week the impeachment referendum that Garrett Park’s Town Council approved over a month ago was abruptly called off under the threat of litigation against the Town Council and the Mayor. The mayor and the Town Council have been advised by legal counsel not to discuss the matter. Does a precedent exist for an individual or group of individuals to prevent the citizens of an entire town from using a referendum to exercise their constitutional right to petition the federal government? And by what authority have these shadowy would-be litigators engineered a de facto gag order against public officials?
