…and nearly half (45%) support beginning impeachment proceedings against President Bush. Eric Kleefeld (”Election Central, Talking Points Memo”):
A new poll from American Research Group shows a startling result: The people are evenly divided on impeachment proceedings against the president, and a majority favor the House beginning impeachment proceedings against Vice President Cheney.
Only 40% oppose Cheney’s impeachment, while 46% still do for Bush. A majority of “independents” favor impeachment for both Bush (50%) and Cheney (51%), with only around 30% opposed in either case. TIME’s Ana Marie Cox cites figures compiled by democrats.com showing support for impeaching Bush or Cheney is higher now than was the case just prior to Clinton’s impeachment. As Cox puts it — “Impeachment Fever: America’s Got It!”
In its July 6 release, the polling company notes that responses were obtained between July 3 and 5 from 1,100 respondents, resulting in a 95% confidence that results are within 3% of the true figure. 933 of the respondents were registered voters.
