Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD-8) gives “thumbs up” to impeachment supporters. He reportedly told one supporter that the Libby commutation is making him consider supporting Rep. Kucinich’s Cheney impeachment resolution, HR 333. As chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Rep. Van Hollen is one of the most influential progressive Democrats on Capitol Hill.

Yes, Chris Van Hollen did tell me (in front of about 100 other Takoma Park Parage-goers) that this most recent incident (Libby Commutation) has made him willing to consider co-sponsoring the Impeachment Resolution.
He should be reminded of this “commitment to consider” at every opportunity. Perhaps we should also be asking him, “What is the magic number of other Congressional co-sponsors who must have signed on for him to feel ’safe enough’ to come out as a co-sponsor?”
Keep up the pressure for democracy!
Thanks for verifying this, Hank. The Libby commutation seems to have pushed a lot of people to finally seriously consider impeachment.
Not that it’s on the same level, but I’ve also noticed it’s suddenly showing up in the “big time” blogs like Andrew Sullivan (see also the link above), Yglesias, Ezra Klein, Steve Benen and others. See esp. Avedon Carol for consistent, longstanding impeachment advocacy.
As ever, it’s a mixed bag of opinions out there in blogworld, but this is a topic that’s rising.
