This past week, Rep. Maxine Waters of California became the eighth cosponsor to Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s bill to bring articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney. At the press conference held on the terrace of the Cannon House Office building, both Kucinich and Waters focused on Cheney’s role in misleading the country into war as grounds for impeachment. Both also warned about the possibility that he will advocate and carry out a pre-emptive strike against Iran. During her remarks, Waters stated, “We have the power to stop the expansion of this war,” and asked, “If Iran is next, what then? Syria?.”
After their remarks, they addressed questions from members of the press and others. When asked how the House Leadership was likely to respond to the legislation, Kucinich stated that the leadership is “engaged in the Democratic agenda,” but that this bill was being introduced in response to the “agenda of the American people.” Waters said, “Our constituents are unhappy” and called on her fellow members of Congress to “step out of the box and move forward.”
The measure now has eight cosponsors (including Kucinich) . Kucinich said that they will need twenty five in order for it to go forward.
